A Good Horse Supplement for Fly Defense

I don’t know about you but where I live the flies are horrible! I mean they are so bad, as soon as my horses leave the barn they start getting eat up by horse flies and other flies. It doesn’t matter if I soaked them in fly spray, the flies would still bite them and not go away. The horses were so annoyed with flies they would constantly be swooshing their tails, stomping the feet, rubbing against one another, and at times take off running to just get away from the pests.

I’d get them in from the pasture and they would have bloody spots all over their bodies. They were just pitiful. Not to mention, riding was a hassle. I would constantly be fighting my horses to move forward because all they wanted to do was stay in one spot and fight off flies.

I finally got to the point I had to try something different because fly spray alone wasn’t working. After seeing a few people post on Facebook about feeding Garlic and having success with it, I decided to give it a try. So I got online and ordered Wendal’s Garlic Granules for horses.  The price wasn’t too high and it was an all-natural fly repellent. I also read good reviews for it.

 

It’s now been 2 weeks since my horses have been on it and I’m finally starting to see a difference. I read that it would only take a couple days to get in their systems and start to repel flies but it didn’t happen that soon in my case. It took a good 10 days or so before I really noticed any difference at all with my horses. Then all of a sudden this weekend I could tell the flies weren’t bothering them as bad. I also noticed Gracie didn’t seem as distracted with fighting flies while I was riding.

I don’t think that the garlic supplement would work by itself but when combined with fly spray it seems to be doing the job and keeping flies from being as bad. They aren’t leaving the horses alone completely but they definitely aren’t as bad.

So if the pesky flies are bothering your horses to know end, you might want to consider giving this supplement a try.
