Can you believe it’s Thursday already? Boy this week is flying by! My little man is finishing his last day of 4th grade and I’m a little sad. I can’t believe he only has 1 more year of elementary school left. 🙁 Kids grow up to fast.
Time to change the subject before the tears start. So how many of you own a diesel truck? I DO! I have a Silverado 2500HD with Turbo might I add. I know I’m too proud of my truck. This was my dream vehicle and I like telling people about it not to mention, I’m more proud that I bought it with my own money!! Pat on the back. Way to go me. Anyway, my truck that I love so much has had a year of bad luck. It’s been in and out of the shop countless times and I honestly was to the point of selling it. The very last time it broke down I was pulling a loaded down trailer of hay and was 30 minutes from my farm. I had just stopped to get chinese for dinner and got back in the truck. I cranked it up and started pulling out of the parking lot and all of a sudden it was quiet. No purr of the motor, no engine roar, nothing! It just turned off with no warning! Shock and anxiety can’t even explain how I was feeling! Had it been on a weekend and during the day this would have been ok. But as luck would have it, this happened at 7pm in the evening and I had my son with me, who had school the next day. Well to make a long story short I had to call a tow truck (that’s another story all in itself. That tow truck driver was a butt! A big meany butt!) and wait on him for an hour. By the time he got there and got it loaded up it was close to 10pm.
Tiredness was taking over and I was just ready to get home. I was able to get the hay trailer unhooked and borrowed my boyfriends truck so I could get it home. Thank goodness he has a truck too or I would have been up crap creek.
Well the my truck got towed to the shop and go figure..when he goes to crank it up it starts and runs with no problems. The mechanic told me he thinks air was in the fuel system and the truck shut off to save the engine from getting messed up. Isn’t it great how it has a mind of its own?! I spent a little more time talking to him about other problems I’ve had/having with the truck and he gave me a tip to try. He told me to put a quart of transmission oil in the fuel tank with every other fill up. The reason to do this is because it cleans the injectors and lubricates everything at the same time. Of course, at first I was skeptical and it took a lot of reassurance to get me to try it. I’m happy to now say it’s been the best advice/tip anyone ever gave me regarding this truck. My truck is running ten times better. I haven’t heard it make the awful noise it was making before when I would accelerate and it even is getting better fuel mileage! 24 miles/gallon highway! Yea baby!
If you have a diesel truck I urge you to consult with your mechanic and give it a try! I promise you, you will have good results and it won’t mess up your truck! (At least it didn’t mess up mine)
*Disclaimer – I’m not a mechanic nor do I try to be so please consult your mechanic before trying this tip. I can’t guarantee it works for every make/model/year of truck.
