My Winter Reading List

It won’t be long and winter will be upon us. We’ve already had a few chilly days that make you want to curl up under a blanket beside a fire and sip on hot chocolate. As much as I dislike winter there is a small part of me that does welcome it and get excited. The idea of snow and how beautiful the scenery becomes when everything is so white is exciting. Knowing I don’t have to stress about riding is exciting- for me and my horses. But best of all, my main excitement for winter comes from knowing there will be many nights I can curl up under a blanket beside the fireplace and read!

I love to read!

It’s funny how we change when we get older and the things we use to hate are things we now embrace and love. When I was younger, reading was a chore and I dreaded (like I’d rather do a million things I hated then read!) having to do it. Now I buy books like I buy horse stuff. It’s a weakness I have a hard time controlling and I buy just about every book that sparks my interest. Heck, I even love going to the book store. I like the smell and feel of books, I love turning the pages and I love being able to imagine what the characters and places look like. Most of the time my imagination is far from what the characters end up looking like in movies though. Does that happen to you too? For instance, 50 shades of grey is the perfect example. In my mind I was picturing Ian Somerhalder as Christian Grey not Jamie Doman. Ugh, I won’t even begin to go into the rest of my thoughts on that.

Anyway, I’ve narrowed down my winter reading list to a few books and I thought I would share them with you to see if you’ve read any of them or are interested in reading them too. I’d love to hear what you think of these books. If there is enough interest, we could even have our own book club. 😉  Ok ok I know the nerd in me is coming out! Ha!

Horse Related Books on my List

Barrel Racing 101: A Complete Program For Horse And Rider

Charmayne James on Barrel Racing (Western Horseman Books)

This book I’ve actually had on my night stand for months but haven’t read it yet. Charmayne is one of my all time favorite trainers and riders. I love her proven style of riding and really look forward to what I can learn from this book.

Financial Help Book

The Total Money Makeover: Classic Edition: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness

I’ve actually read this one a couple times before but it’s been years so I think now is a good time to read a newer version and see what’s new.

UPDATE: While I had wanted to read this book, I actually decided on a different direction and read Smart Money Smart Kids by Rachel Cruze (his daughter) and Dave Ramsey. It was an excellent book with great advice on how to raise your kids with an understanding of money and how to manage it. I would highly recommend it to all parents!

Fiction Book

The Lake House Secret, A Romantic Mystery Novel (A Jenessa Jones Mystery Book 1)

I love mysteries and this book sounds like something I would enjoy reading. It even has really good reviews and almost 5 stars! I’ve already downloaded it on my iPad too.

UPDATE: I’ve finished reading this book and it was great! I read it faster then I’ve read any book because I just couldn’t put it down. I loved all the characters and I loved the story and how it unfolded. If you love a good mystery book then you’ll like this one. It’s full of mystery and love!

So Tell Me..

Have you read any of these books? If so, what did you think of them?
