Barrel Racing Videos and Training

Friday night I went to the rodeo in Goldston again. It has been my new Friday thing for the last few months and I’m a little sad it will be ending this weekend and I won’t be there. 🙁 But it’s all good because this weekend I’m going to Mt. Rogers for the first time this year and I can’t wait! I’m so excited to see some baby ponies!

Anyway, here are a few videos I took Friday night of some girls running.

I love this girl. She rides really well and seems to be so balanced in the saddle. Her great riding has enabled her to have a few wins at the Rodeo too.

This is a friend’s daughter who just started barrel racing last year. She’s pretty good for only a years worth of riding, huh! Her horse is “Classie” and she just started running her again after she had some time off for an injury.

This is the girl above’s younger sister. She too just started running barrels a year ago and has really come a long way. This is a new horse she just bought 2 weeks ago and her first time running her at the rodeo. Even though they did knock down the barrels, I still think they did good for their first rodeo together.

Barrel racing is a ton of fun. It’s hard to go and watch everyone else get to ride while I sit in the stands and cheer them on but my times coming. Hopefully by the end of this year Jet will be ready to run and if he can’t then I know Spur will be. 🙂

I found this video on Youtube and thought it offered some great information about training a barrel horse. I’ve started to introduce the “rollback” to Jet when I ride and I thought this lady does a good job explaining the basics.

What is something you’ve been training your horse to do lately?
